Of Korean, Japanese and Taiwanese Cuisine

Ever since I met my loud squad in the form of my former workmates slash food besties, I have been able to explore my love for foreign food most especially that our office is situated along Eastwood.

Anyways, these restos were some of those food establishments we have eaten. (As far as I remember)

Caffe Bene

Benne’s like Starbucks in Korea. Yes, it’s a Korean cafe which offers different kinds of coffee/frappes/mocktails/yoghurts/sandwiches/gelato/bingsu.

Bingsu, according to Pam is a “Korean Halo Halo”. It is a dessert containing shaved ice and topped with fruits/condensed milk and syrup. In our case, Pam let us try the Oreo Bingsu.

Don-Day Korean Restaurant

Don Day on the other hand, is a Korean buffet restaurant. It is situated along Maginhawa Street. One of the main reason why we went here is to experience Korean cuisine at a fixed-price expense. The budget for the dinner (special) buffet is 399/head (drinks not included). The buffet is inclusive of the samgyupsal plate, ready-to-eat Korean dishes in the buffet section and grilling for the samgyupsal.

For what I remembered, there’s this cheaper buffet like the Don-Day buffet which only cost P199 while the Samgyupsal buffet is P299.

I actually did not enjoy the buffet because I was not able to try all the food! I easily became full tho. But anyhow, recommendation-wise, I could approve of this in terms of the affordability of the buffet (compared to other Korean buffet). And the thrill of eating a cuisine as a first-timer seemed wonderful to me.

Bobby Box Casual Dining

After work, we usually notice this Doraemon-like mascot along Le Grand Tower in Eastwood so we were wondering what was this restau is all about. Soon as we knew that Bobby Box serves Korean food, and that we got exposed to Don-Day, we then tried it! What I can really say is that this was a good value for money. At the range of 150-200, you can get a meal + a drink! Isn’t it amazing?

What I really love their meal is how it cutely comes in a box. I get it, Bobby Box, right?

Katsu Sora

Moving on, Japanese food is what we tried next. Katsu Sora is a newly opened Katsu concept owned by Santuoka Ramen group.

What makes it unique from other Katsu restos is that they have 4 choices of pork. In my case, I tried the Sakura pork.

The buffet comes with your choice of salad from their salad bar, unlimited rice and miso soup at the minimum price of 350 above. Only!!

Hot Star Large Fried Chicken

It is said to be the number 1 brand of chicken shop in Taiwan because of their specially marinated and cut-to-perfection XXL (30 cm) fried chicken chops.

There’s no denying of my surprise when I saw the XXL chicken they are boasting about. It’s really as big as my face!

Overall, I enjoyed my meal. I never expected the chicken to be that great-tasting. The only downside is that I want to have more rice. And there was this tendency of the “umay” and “sawa” factor on the chicken because it is really huge.

Kyochon

Kyochon just opened its doors along Eastwood weeks ago so my chicken-lover buddy Pam invited us to try this one out. She did not disappoint us.

The honey-glazed chicken is my favorite. It is not too sweet and tasted just right. Their spicy chicken is really spicy. So I suggest you have the water beside you upon munching on the chicken. On the other hand, the original chicken is also delish.

What I can say that it is a must-try and Lee Min Ho is very handsome.

Of Kariman and Uncle John's Fried Chicken

Mini Stop has been known for their signature kariman – with various of special fillings on it inside. I admit I haven’t tried one but I finally did a while ago. :) I believe Kariman is sort of a Japanese food since the convenience store originated in Japan. Relatively, it was a cross between a meat bun and a fried sandwich, according to Sybdive  It contains fillings (whether sweet or savory) stuffed into a piece of yeast dough, sealed, dipped in egg wash, rolled in   panko , and deep-fried till the outside is golden brown and crunchy to the bite. Going back, upon buying Uncle John’s fried chicken meal for my lunch, (which for me is worth-the-buy because of the generous size of the chicken and comparing to other stores offering  the same type of meal, I believe it can be included on your choice) I decided to have Cookie Karamel Kariman since it was only ten pesos. Surprisingly, it was delicious. It tastes like cookie butter with...

Mr. Swabergers: Making the Burger Hype More Exciting with Fancy Colored Burgers

There is no doubt, we live in a society where instant, create-your-down and do-it-yourself seems on the verge of popularity nowadays - whether pizza, ice cream or cake it may be, burgers are undoubtedly on top of the list. One can easily recall Zarks or the Brgr Project and many more for their flagship of  create-your-own burgers. Then there's this colored burger that entered the picture. Wait, colored burgers? I am dedicating this post to the burger lovers out there. Especially to ehem.. Jossan. Earlier this morning, as I was on my phone checking Facebook, my mom told me about this colored burger she watched on TV. She can't barely remember what was the name of the store but it was along Caloocan. I immediately searched it online until I discovered "Mr. Swabergers". It was featured on TV5 Morning Show this week. Watch the feature here. And so I did not make second-guesses, I invited my mom that we should give it a try. Mr. Swabergers is located along Sangan...
